Summer Road Trip…

May 21, 2011

So, I have this blog just to write when I feel like writing something…but this summer, I want to publish for my friends and family who will be following my road trip. Not wanting them to read all this stuff – I have a different site for that – RoadTripChick.com – so if you want to check out a cool adventure this summer, check out that site!

No Dairy for YOU!

May 16, 2011

So – one of the things that I OK’d on this trip to Whole Food Veganism (Whole Food Plant Based or whatever you want to call it) was sushi.  I LOVE sushi. I know that I don’t *need* seafood in my diet, but sometimes – I love it.  Let’s just call it my infrequent chocolate cake. It’s not like I’m eating it every day.

So – yesterday we go to our favorite sushi place – two of my girlfriends and I – and we enjoy some sushi. After, they’re getting green tea ice cream.  I want some ice cream too. I remind myself that I am not on this diet to lose weight – but to be healthier…and having a treat for my mental health is OK.  So – I run across the street to grab some from the ice cream place (I hate green tea).  I won’t mention the name of the place, but it rhymes with cold stone dreamery.

Anyway – it’s raining out. I walk in the door, see the little yellow “caution slippery” sign, there are no mats, and BAM! I slip and land right. on. my. knee.  The same knee that has put me in a shit mood cause I can’t exercise.  The same knee that I just had surgery on. The same knee that I am still in physical therapy for.

An ER trip later, I find that my insurance will likely still limit my physical therapy (even though it is almost a “new injury”) AND I really can’t file against these people because I didn’t call the cops when it happened.  So – anytime you are hurt someplace – be ridiculous in your documentation – as you may need it.

That’s what I get for wanting some dairy in my diet.

What not to do when you’re stuck at a mall

May 15, 2011

So – I spent all day at a test (took tons of food) but ended up at a mall after, and starving. What to do?  I guess I should have gone the salad somewhere route….but I hate salads. I went with Thai Lettuce Wraps at the place that rhymes with Pleasecake Factory.  I love them.  About 2 years ago I found them. Questioned the hell out of the staff and found that 1) the noodles were rice noodles, 2) the peanut sauce didn’t have soy sauce, and 3) the meal was generally gluten free.

Now, I’m not even going to go into the fact that there was chicken on the plate that I ate a bit of, but I cleared all the lettuce, noodles, sprouts, carrots, and peanut sauce…just a little of the chicken.

I find out yesterday (as I’m about done with the plate) that 1) the rice noodles are not wholly rice, 2) there is soy sauce in the peanut sauce, and 3) the meal is not even slightly gluten free. What. The. Fuck. People.

So – enter today. I have a bit of a tummy ache (not bad) and definitely have a gluten hangover. I am angry, annoyed, and bit “punchy.”  Grrrr.  Screw you Pleasecake Factory.  That’s what I get for eating chicken I guess.

First full day(ish)

May 11, 2011

This is hard.  Never mind that you have to pack a LOT of food to make it through a day, but beyond that, it is hard. My body wants whatever it can’t have. That’s pretty natural.  Although I’m craving cakey things – which I haven’t been able to have for what seems like forever. What gives?

I started off my day with a gluten-free, dairy-free donut.  I was too intent on finishing them and they were too enjoyable to let them go to waste. Then I ate. I ate.  All. Day. Long.  And still – about 1500 cals. It’s kinda bizarre.  I’m trying to find things of different textures and flavors to make it a little better (brown rice, pickled carrots, etc). The hardest thing has been breakfast….everything is oatmeal this, oatmeal that. I hate oatmeal made without milk. I’m going to have to figure this one out.

Groceries and “whole food veganism”

May 10, 2011

$120 that I don’t have, and what’s the first thing I bust into? donuts.  The only non-vegan thing in the basket. Although to be fair, they were dairy free, casein free, and gluten free. And they weren’t made with a bunch of chemicals. So, they could have been worse.

Forks Over Knives

May 9, 2011

I saw this movie tonight…it says the same thing as the China Study (which it’s based on) and Eat to Live (which I adored)- so here I am contemplating the idea of real food plant based diet. the major drawbacks? time and simple availability. No more just go out to eat, and more prep will have to happen in my life!

What kinda annoyed me about the movie – is the end says “continue the discussion at http://forksoverknives.com/ .  Guess what discussion is there? Nothing!  It’s all a big time movie ad site.  WTF?

Either you’ll get nothing or everything

May 8, 2011

Yeah, that’s what I was told about house offers. turns out, 3 days, 3 offers! almost to the P&S point, but I wont sleep until it’s done. I’m even willing to sleep on a couch for a month to get it done faster!!!

Running Away to México…

April 20, 2011

I’m soooo ready to get out of here.  I’m looking at a road trip at the start of summer and perhaps a month in México.  I’m sick of being stuck in this house (“stay off the knee”), sick of owning this house (Open House, May 1), and sick of having to do anything 🙂

A week later…

March 19, 2011

So I’m a week past my first real surgery to deal with as a grown up. It turns out that I turned a lot to my friends. And cupcakes.   Due to an unfortunate timing with a levelup coupon (like groupon, but less cool) at a gluten-free cupcake place, I may have gone a little overboard.

I am, however, home for a couple more days, and have a full on sense of “gung ho” get shit done-ness that can’t compare!  What shall I do?!  What shall I do?!
